Joining the test, connecting your music, and finding your way around.
Getting startedJoin the closed test
- Join the tester group with the Google account that’s signed in on your phone.
- Open the test page on Google Play and tap Become a tester.
- Install Yoin from Google Play. It can take a few minutes to appear after you accept.
What you need
- A phone, tablet or foldable on Android 8.0 or later, with a network connection.
- At least one of these:
- A Subsonic-compatible server, such as Navidrome or Gonic, with a username and password.
- Spotify Premium, with the Spotify app signed in on the same device.
- An Apple Music subscription.
- Optional: a Gemini API key, for song info, Ask Gemini, lyric translation and Memory titles.
First launch
The first time you open Yoin, a short guide sets it up.
- Tap Get started and pick the services you listen with. You can pick more than one. With no account added yet, you need to pick at least one.
- Yoin shows what it does and what each service needs from you. Tap Next.
- Connect each service you picked. To do it later, tap Skip and add accounts in Settings › Accounts.
- Choose what goes on Home: drag sections into order and hide the ones you don’t want. Later, long-press Home to change how many rows a section shows.
- Choose how content slips under the top bar when you scroll: tide line, dots or cookie wave. Tap one to preview it.
- Tap Open Yoin. The button at the bottom turns into Home’s bar.
To go through it again, open Settings › About › Welcome guide. Your accounts and data stay as they are, and you can skip the service step.
AccountsSubsonic and Navidrome
Yoin works with Navidrome, Gonic, Airsonic and other servers that speak the Subsonic or OpenSubsonic API. You need the server’s address, and your username and password on it.
- In Settings › Accounts, tap Add account and pick Subsonic. The welcome guide has the same form.
- Enter the server address with
http://orhttps://and the port if it has one, such ashttps://music.example.com. Then your username and password. - Tap Connect. Yoin checks the server and your sign-in, saves the account and switches to it. If the check fails, what you typed stays in the form.
http:// addresses work, which helps on a home network, but your password then crosses the network unencrypted.Good to know
- Your phone has to reach the address. A home-network address works away from home only through a VPN or a tunnel.
- The heart in Yoin is your server’s star, for songs, albums and artists.
- Song ratings also go to your server, on servers that support them, as 0 to 5 stars: your score halved and rounded. Yoin keeps the decimal, like 8.6.
- Whether you can edit a playlist depends on who owns it on the server.
- The server sends the audio and may convert it, so what plays isn’t always the format of the file in your library.
- Your password is stored encrypted on your phone. To change the address or password, go to Settings › Accounts and tap Manage on the account.
Spotify
You need Spotify Premium, and the Spotify app signed in to the same account on the same device. Yoin reads your library, searches, saves Liked Songs and edits playlists through Spotify’s Web API, and plays music through the Spotify app.
Spotify asks every app to identify itself with a Client ID, so you create one for yourself. It’s free and takes about five minutes. Yoin floats a small guide over your browser, with a copy button for each value, so you don’t have to switch back and forth.
- On the Spotify page in Yoin, tap Open Spotify for Developers. Your browser opens and Yoin shrinks to the guide above it. You can also open Spotify for Developers yourself.
- Log in with your Spotify account and tap Create app. Name and description can be anything, like
Yoin. - Under Redirect URIs, add both addresses, one at a time, and tap Add after each:
yoin://auth/spotify/callbackyoin://auth/spotify/app-remote
- Tick Web API and Android.
- Under Android packages, add the package name and the SHA1 fingerprint the guide shows, then tap Add. Use the values the guide shows on this phone.
com.gpo.yoin
- Agree to the terms and tap Save.
- Copy the Client ID from your app’s page and tap Back to Yoin. Yoin fills it in from the clipboard. Then sign in to Spotify and allow Yoin.
Good to know
- Switching Spotify accounts in Yoin doesn’t switch the account in the Spotify app. Keep both on the same account.
- If the sign-in expires, tap Restore sign-in on the account in Settings. If Yoin can’t reach the player, tap Sign in to Spotify app and check that the Spotify app is signed in and allows the connection.
- If Spotify says there are too many requests, wait a while before you try again. Yoin keeps what it has already loaded. Retrying again and again, or signing out and in, makes the wait longer.
- Ratings stay in Yoin and don’t sync to Spotify. The heart follows your Liked Songs.
- Playing something in Yoin takes over what Spotify is playing on that device.
- Spotify has a single queue, so Play next isn’t offered for Spotify.
Apple Music
You need an Apple Music subscription for your country or region. Songs play inside Yoin, through Apple’s MusicKit.
- In Settings › Accounts, tap Add account and pick Apple Music.
- Choose a developer token. Yoin’s token service is shared by everyone on Yoin and needs nothing from you. Your own token service needs an Apple Developer Program membership, US$99 a year, and the address of your service.
- Tap Connect, sign in with your Apple ID and allow Yoin to access your media library. If it doesn’t go through, tap Connect again. It can take two or more tries.
Good to know
- Songs you imported into your Apple Music library that don’t match the Apple Music catalog, and songs not available in your region, can’t play in Yoin. They show grayed out with a question mark. Tap one to see why. Play imported songs in the Apple Music app.
- When an album in your library matches a full album in the catalog, Yoin shows all of its tracks. Songs already in your library have a ✓. Tap + next to the others to add them.
Switching accounts
You can keep several accounts, such as a Navidrome server at home, a Spotify account and an Apple Music account, and more than one of each. Each account has its own library, Home, ratings, notes, reviews and Memories. Yoin doesn’t mix them.
- Tap your picture at the top right of Home, or open Settings › Accounts.
- Tap the account you want. Home and Library load its music. If the switch fails, Yoin goes back to the account you were on, where you left it.
- When an account needs to sign in again, a red dot shows on your picture, and the account shows Reconnect or the reason, such as a missing Client ID. If the network just dropped, Yoin carries on once you’re back online.
- To remove an account, open its menu in Settings › Accounts and tap Remove. It’s removed from this phone only. Your music on the service isn’t touched, and your ratings, notes and listening history stay, including any copy in Google Drive.
BrowseHome
Home is built from your account’s music and what you do in Yoin. It has six sections, and you choose which ones show.
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Activities | Albums, artists and playlists you played or opened lately. On Spotify it also uses Spotify’s recently played. With little history, the row gets shorter instead of filling up with blanks. |
| Jump Back In | Albums, songs and playlists you play often, mixed with cards that show a note or score you left. Tap a song to play it, or an album or playlist to open it. |
| Recently Added | What joined your library in about the last 30 days: albums on top, songs in two rows below. |
| Rediscover | Albums and songs you rated, reviewed or wrote notes on, and haven’t played in Yoin for at least 90 days. Rated ones come first, highest score first. On a tie, the one you’ve gone longest without comes first. |
| Recently Played | Albums your service says you played lately, including on other devices. |
| Your Playlists | The playlists in this account: your own, ones you follow, and ones the service made for you. |
Small marks on album covers show what you left there: filled for an album score, outlined for a track average, dashed for notes.
After you rate or write about an album that can become a Memory, or when you stay on Home for a while, a Memories bubble may show at the top. Tap it to open that album’s Memory. Pull down on Home to open all of Memories.
Editing Home
Each account has its own Home layout. With Cloud sync on, it follows you to your other devices. To start editing, do any of these:
- Long-press a card. This picks up its whole section.
- Long-press an empty spot, or right-click with a mouse.
- Tap Edit Home at the bottom of Home, or on the account card.
Then:
- Drag a section to move it. While you drag, every section folds into a strip with its covers. Drop it where you want it.
- Drag the ⌟ handle at the bottom right of Activities or Jump Back In up or down to change its size. There are four sizes.
- Tap the hide button on a section to send it to Hidden at the bottom. Tap + there to bring it back where it was.
- Changes save as you go. While you edit, the bar has Undo, for up to 20 steps, and Reset Home.
- Tap Done, tap an empty area or go back to finish.
Library
Tap Library in the bar. All shows your playlists, artists and albums together. Artists are round, albums and playlists square. Tap a chip at the top to see only Playlists, Artists, Albums, Songs or Favorites. Tap it again, or tap ✕ at the left, to go back to All.
Each service keeps its library its own way, and Yoin shows it as the service has it.
| View | Subsonic | Spotify | Apple Music |
|---|---|---|---|
| Favorites | Everything you starred on your server | Not shown. Songs is your Liked Songs, and albums and artists are the ones you saved and follow. | Not shown. Apple Music doesn’t offer it. |
| Songs | The tracks of your newest albums, in album order, loaded page by page. If a page fails, retry or skip it at the bottom. | Your Liked Songs, newest first, up to 200 | Up to 500 songs from your library, by title |
| Albums and playlists | All of them, page by page | Up to 200 of each | All of them, page by page |
Sorting and scrolling
In All, Artists, Albums and Playlists, tap Sort to change the order. Songs and Favorites keep a fixed order. Each account and view remembers its own choice on this device.
- Recents: what you last played or opened in Yoin comes first. Things you haven’t touched follow, by date added or name. So the list doesn’t jump while you look at it, changes from playback show the next time you come back to Library.
- Recently added: by the date it joined your library. Not offered for artists, or for Spotify playlists, which come without that date.
- Alphabetical: in your language’s order. On Subsonic, a leading article such as “The” is ignored.
- Creator: albums by artist, playlists by who made them.
When Playlists has both your own playlists and ones you follow, a By You chip shows at the top. Tap it to see only yours. On Apple Music, Yoin goes by which playlists Apple Music marks as editable.
In All, Artists and Albums, a handle shows at the right while you scroll. Drag it to jump through letters (A–Z, kana, Hangul, #), or through dates when sorted by Recents. It hides again shortly after you stop, out of the way of the covers.
Search
Tap the search bar at the top of Library to search your library. To go straight to the Spotify or Apple Music catalog, long-press Library in the bar. On Subsonic, both search your server.
- On Spotify and Apple Music, switch between your library and the whole catalog under the search bar. Spotify library search runs on the copy of your library that Yoin keeps on your phone. Subsonic searches the whole server.
- Filter results by All, Artists, Albums, Songs or Playlists. Playlists are searchable on Spotify and Apple Music.
- Tap a song to play it, or an album, artist or playlist to open it. In Apple Music catalog results, tap + to add a song to your library.
Albums, artists and playlists
An album opens with its cover, its details, play and shuffle buttons, when you last played it in Yoin, and its record-groove emblem at the top right.
- As you scroll down the tracks, the cover folds into a band of its colours at the top, with a small cover at the right. Tap the small cover to scroll back up. In a wide window, the album details stay in a column at the left instead.
- The playing track shows a moving equalizer, and tracks with notes show a note mark. Each row has a heart on Subsonic and Spotify, or + on Apple Music, and ⋯ for more.
- Swipe left for the second page, the Scrapbook. Going back from either page leaves the album.
An artist page has a round picture, the songs you’ve played most, and the discography. Star an artist on Subsonic, or follow one on Spotify.
A playlist page lets you play or shuffle it. If you can edit the playlist, on Subsonic or Spotify, you can rename it, change its description, remove songs or delete it there. Apple Music playlists are read-only.
Tap ⋯ on a page or a track for Play next (Subsonic and Apple Music), Add to queue, Add to playlist, Go to artist, opening it in the service’s app, or Share. On a large screen, actions already in the bar are left out of the menu.
On a tablet or an unfolded foldable, albums, artists and playlists open in a column next to Home or Library, with one bar across both.
PlayNow Playing
Tap the song in the bar to open Now Playing. Swipe down, use the back gesture or tap the arrow at the top to close it.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Rating bar | Drag to rate the song from 0.0 to 10.0. See Ratings and reviews. |
| Heart | Stars the song on Subsonic, or adds it to Liked Songs on Spotify. On Apple Music it’s +, to add the song to your library. |
| Previous | More than about 3 seconds into a song, goes back to its start. Earlier than that, goes to the previous song. |
| Play mode | A round button. Each tap steps through repeat all, shuffle, shuffle with repeat one, and repeat one. Long-press it and it splits in two, shuffle on the left and repeat on the right, so you can switch either one; it joins back after a few seconds. Shuffle play on an album or playlist is different: it shuffles the tracks and starts from the first. |
| Queue | What plays next. See Queue. |
| Lyrics, About, Note | Synced lyrics, song info, and your notes for this song. |
| Cover | Tap it to see it larger, with the current lyric line below, when the screen has room. Tap again to go back. Long-press it for the song’s options: Play next, Add to queue, Go to album or artist, Share, Open in Spotify or Apple Music, and Keep screen on. |
| Devices | Where the music plays. See Cache, Cast and sound. |
While a song loads, or while Yoin connects to the Spotify app, the play button shows that it’s loading, and switches to playing once the sound starts.
On a phone, tapping the bar opens Now Playing full screen. On a tablet or foldable, it first opens as a panel at the right. The button at the panel’s top corner makes it full screen. Going back steps from full screen to the panel, then to the bar. On a phone held sideways, the bar moves to the side.
On Apple Music, when you play a list of more than 300 songs, Yoin leaves out songs that can’t play and queues up to 100 around the one you picked, about 20 of them before it.
Queue
Tap Queue in Now Playing. It lists what will play, in the order it will play, even with shuffle on. Songs that have finished drop off. It has three parts:
- Now playing: the current song.
- Next in queue: songs you added with Play next or Add to queue.
- Next from: the rest of the album, playlist or artist you’re playing.
Play next puts a song right after the current one, on Subsonic and Apple Music. Add to queue puts it at the end of Next in queue, before the rest of the album or playlist.
- Subsonic: tap a song to jump to it. With shuffle off, drag the handle to reorder songs within a part. Swipe left to remove a song, or tap Clear to remove everything you added.
- Apple Music: tap a song to jump to it, or remove it. MusicKit doesn’t allow reordering.
- Spotify: the queue is read-only. It shows what’s playing and where from.
- Changing the queue never changes a playlist saved on your service.
Hearts and playlists
What the heart does depends on the service. It’s separate from your rating: a high score doesn’t light the heart, and the heart doesn’t add a score.
- Subsonic: tap the heart on a song, album or artist to star it on your server. Tap again to remove the star.
- Spotify: the heart on a song adds it to or removes it from Liked Songs. Save an album with Save to library in its ⋯ menu. Follow an artist with Follow on the artist page.
- If the network drops or the service refuses, the heart goes back and Yoin tells you.
Apple Music has no heart in Yoin. Tap + instead to add a song to your library, in catalog search, on an album’s tracks or in Now Playing. Apple Music adds songs in the background, so the button waits until Yoin finds the song in your library before it shows ✓. Your library then refreshes without moving you from where you are. Songs can’t be removed from your Apple Music library in Yoin.
On Subsonic and Spotify, you can manage playlists you’re allowed to edit. Apple Music playlists are read-only.
- To create one, tap New playlist in Library’s Playlists and give it a name and description.
- To add a song, tap ⋯ and Add to playlist, then pick the playlist.
- In a playlist you can edit, rename it, change its description or remove songs. If a song is in it twice, only the row you picked is removed.
- Deleting a playlist on Subsonic deletes it from the server. On Spotify, it unfollows the playlist, the way Spotify handles it.
Lyrics and notesLyrics
Tap Lyrics in Now Playing. Yoin chooses lyrics in this order:
- Lyrics you picked or edited yourself always come first.
- On Subsonic, your server’s lyrics. Yoin doesn’t look anywhere else unless you search.
- On Spotify and Apple Music, which don’t offer lyrics, Yoin checks what it has saved on your phone, then QQ Music, NetEase Cloud Music and LRCLIB, in that order.
- Huawei Music is only used when you search yourself.
- Synced lyrics light up line by line and stay centred. Tap a line to jump there.
- While synced lyrics play, the controls hide after about 3 seconds without a touch. Tap, scroll or pause to bring them back.
- Near the end of a song, when the next song is known, mostly on Subsonic, it’s announced at the bottom.
If the lyrics are wrong, such as a live version, search from the lyrics tools. Results come from QQ Music, NetEase Cloud Music, Huawei Music and LRCLIB. Check the title, artist and length, then tap one to use it. To write your own or paste LRC text, open the lyrics editor.
Lyrics Yoin finds on its own are kept for 30 days. Lyrics you picked from search don’t expire, and lyrics you typed or pasted are never cleared to make room.
Translating and sharing
In Settings › AI features, set Answer in to the language you want. It’s separate from the app’s language. Then tap the translate button in the lyrics.
- If a lyrics source has a translation in that language, Yoin uses it, or offers to switch to that source’s lyrics and translation together. It never pairs one source’s lyrics with another source’s translation line by line.
- If there isn’t one and you’ve saved a Gemini key, Gemini translates the whole song, and Yoin keeps the translation on your phone.
- Turning translation on or off keeps the current line where it is.
To copy or share lines:
- Tap ✓ to select lines. The lyrics stop following the song while you select.
- Tap up to 15 lines, from anywhere in the song.
- Copy them as text. They come out in song order, with a blank line between separate parts, the translation if it’s on, and the title and artist at the end.
- Or share them as an image. Choose Card, 1440 px wide and as tall as the lines need, or Story, 1080 × 1920 and scaled to fit, and one of four colour sets from the cover: Soft, Deep, Vivid or Mist. Save puts it in Pictures/Yoin on Android 10 and later. Share sends it.
Lyrics and notesRatings and reviews
Ratings and reviews are kept in Yoin, on every service. On Subsonic, song ratings also go to your server.
- In Now Playing, drag the rating bar to rate the song from 0.0 to 10.0, in steps of 0.1. It runs beside the cover, or across in landscape and other tight layouts. Drag back to 0 to clear it.
- On Subsonic, Yoin keeps the decimal and gives your server 0 to 5 stars: the score halved and rounded.
- The rating and the heart are separate.
To rate and review an album, tap the record-groove emblem at the top right of the album, or the review in its Memory. Drag across the bar to score the album. The emblem changes as you drag, and the score saves when you let go. Scrolling the panel up and down doesn’t change it. Write your review in the box below. It grows as you write and saves when you close the panel.
The emblem shows where an album stands:
- Filled label in the centre: you scored the album. An album score always shows before a track average.
- Outlined label: you haven’t scored the album but rated some of its tracks. It shows their average.
- Dashed: nothing rated yet.
- Each ring is a track, the first one outermost. A solid ring is a rated track, a dotted ring one not rated yet.
Notes
A note is pinned to a moment in a song and kept in Yoin.
- In Now Playing, tap Note.
- Tap the box and start typing. The moment you start, Yoin takes the current time for the note.
- If the song has moved on and you want the note at the new moment, tap the align button next to the box.
- Tap save. The note joins the list, and the keyboard stays open for the next one. An empty box folds back when you close the keyboard.
- Notes are listed in song order, and the one for the current moment lights up. They also show as marks on the progress bar. Older notes without a time show as a hollow dot.
- Tap a note in Now Playing to jump to its moment. From the Scrapbook or a Memory, Yoin starts the song first and jumps once it’s ready. If that takes more than about 4 seconds, it plays from the start.
- Long-press a note to set its time to now, or to delete it. For about 5 seconds, Undo brings it back.
- Notes are kept on your phone. With Cloud sync on, new and deleted notes sync to your other devices. Notes never go to your music service or to NeoDB.
Scrapbook
Swipe left on an album to turn to its second page. The Scrapbook collects everything you left on the album, laid out as paper on a dotted page:
- Your album review at the top, next to the cover and emblem. With no review yet, tap Write a comment. An older album note, if you have one, shows below as a folded note you can read.
- Your notes, track by track. Each track shows three notes at first; tap the count under them for the rest. Tap a note to play from its moment.
- Tracks you only rated, as small number tickets. If a track scored 9.0 or more, the album’s best one gets a large, filled ticket.
- Song info and questions you asked Gemini, on index cards marked Q, filed by track and kept apart from your own writing.
- A receipt at the bottom, with your plays of the album in Yoin.
On an album you haven’t left anything on, the page lists its tracks. Tap one to play it.
Memories
Memories collects the albums you’ve spent time with, one card per album, for the account you’re on. Pull down on Home to open it, or tap the bubble at the top of Home or the Memory widget.
An album becomes a Memory when it has at least 4 known tracks and you’ve done one of these:
- rated at least 60% of its tracks,
- written an album review,
- written at least 2 notes on the album or its tracks.
Playing an album many times, asking Gemini about it, or giving it only an album score isn’t enough.
On a phone, Memories has two states. On a wide tablet, they sit side by side.
- Cards: swipe left and right between albums. A card has the cover, the record-groove emblem, which catches the light as you tilt the phone, a title, and a whole sentence from your review or notes.
- Diary: tap Diary under a card. Your review leads. Without one, a short line about your listening takes its place, with room to write. Below are the tracks you rated or wrote about, with Go to album for the full list, and at the bottom how often you played the album in Yoin and how long it’s been since the first time.
Pulling down on a card only stretches it; it doesn’t open the diary. To leave the diary, pull down at its top, drag its top bar, tap the small cover or go back. To leave Memories, push up on a card, tap Home at the top, or push up again once the diary has stopped at its end.
With a Gemini key, the title of each Memory is written by AI. Tap the title to write your own, or to bring back the one Yoin gave it.
OptionalAI features
Paste your own Gemini API key in Settings › AI features and tap Save key. Pick the language under Answer in. Requests go straight from your phone to Google’s Gemini API and are billed to your key. Without a key, everything else in Yoin works the same.
- Song info: on the About tab in Now Playing, Gemini looks the song up with Google Search and fills in when it was written, where it was recorded, the lyricist, composer and producer, and the background. What it can’t find stays empty.
- Ask Gemini: ask about the song below its info, such as the arrangement, a sample or a line in the lyrics. The answer is saved with the song, under a short title, and filed in the album’s Scrapbook.
- Lyric translation, when the lyrics don’t come with one in your language.
- Memories: a short line about your listening for albums you haven’t reviewed, and a title for each Memory.
What Gemini receives depends on the feature:
| Feature | Sent to Gemini |
|---|---|
| Song info and Ask Gemini | Title, artist, album, language and your question. Not your notes or reviews. |
| Lyric translation | Title, artist, the lyrics and the language, including lyrics you typed yourself. Not your notes or reviews. |
| Memories line | Listening facts, such as play counts, dates and how many tracks you rated. Not the text of your notes or reviews. |
| Memory title | Album details and the review or note shown on the card, which can be the whole text. |
Once a key is saved, Memories lines and titles are made when Memories loads, without a separate tap. The key stays on your phone and doesn’t sync to Google Drive, though Android backup can include it. Answers and translations can be wrong.
NeoDB
In Settings › NeoDB, enter your instance, such as neodb.social, and sign in, or paste an access token instead.
After that, an album’s rating and review go to NeoDB when you save them, as long as the album matches an entry there. Closing the album’s rating panel or saving a review in Memories is enough. The rating panel and the bottom of the diary show whether it has synced.
- Scores are rounded to whole numbers from 0 to 10 on NeoDB.
- A review of up to 360 characters goes to NeoDB as a short comment, and a longer one as a full review. Clearing the review in Yoin clears it on NeoDB too.
- Long reviews are posted publicly. Short ones keep the visibility the NeoDB record already has, or are public on a new record. Yoin has no visibility setting, so don’t treat NeoDB as private.
- When you have no unsent changes, Yoin also reads your rating and review back from NeoDB, the full review if there is one, otherwise the short comment.
- Song notes never go to NeoDB.
- Ratings in Yoin belong to each account, but if two of your accounts use the same NeoDB account and rate the same album, NeoDB keeps one record of it.
Cloud sync
Off unless you turn it on, in Settings › Cloud sync. Once you allow Google Drive, Yoin keeps your records in a hidden Yoin folder in your own Google Drive, which counts toward your storage. Yoin can only see its own folder, not your other files, and there’s no Yoin account. Cloud sync needs Google Play services, and it might not be available in every test build.
Sync runs when you open or leave Yoin, after changes, and when you ask for it.
| Syncs | Stays on this device |
|---|---|
| Notes, and the ones you deleted | Passwords, sign-ins and API keys |
| Song and album ratings, album reviews | Listening history and Activities |
| Home layout | The audio cache |
| Memory titles and lines, including your own titles | Library sort order |
| Lyric translations, and About and Ask Gemini answers | Lyrics you typed or pasted yourself (their translations can sync) |
| Translation language, Spotify Client ID and scroll edge style | The address of your own Apple token service |
| Account names, server addresses and usernames |
The files aren’t end-to-end encrypted. That’s why passwords, sign-ins and keys never go there.
On a new phone with the same Google Drive, Subsonic accounts are matched by server address and username, and Spotify accounts by Spotify user ID. Apple Music gives no account ID that stays the same across devices, so link it yourself once: tap Link on the Apple Music records in Cloud sync.
- For ratings and Home layout, the latest change wins. If two devices changed the same album review while offline, Yoin keeps both, marked with the device and date, for you to tidy up.
- Turn off on this device stops syncing here. Your data stays on this phone and in Drive, and your other devices keep syncing.
- Delete cloud data deletes Yoin’s data from your Drive and turns sync off on your other devices. Data on this phone stays.
SystemWidgets
Long-press an empty spot on your home screen, tap Widgets and find Yoin.
- Play shows albums, playlists and artists you played or opened lately. Tap a cover or title to open it, or the play button to start it. If the player isn’t ready, Yoin opens the page instead.
- Memory shows an album from this account’s Memories, with its emblem, score, title and when you last heard it. Tap it to open that Memory.
Resize a widget and its layout adjusts to the new size.
Appearance and accessibility
- Light and dark follow your system. On Android 12 and later, colours come from your wallpaper. While music plays, they shift to colours from the cover.
- How content slips under the top bar is set in Settings › Motion › Scroll edge: tide line, two soft waves and the default; dots, where covers break into fine dots; or cookie wave, where covers leave with a scalloped edge.
- With Remove animations or Battery Saver on, Yoin stops the wobble in Home editing and the tilt light in Memories, and turns moving transitions into simple fades. Everything still works.
- TalkBack reads every icon button, emblem and playback state. In Home editing, the accessibility actions menu or the arrow keys move a section up or down, hide it, or change its rows.
- With a larger system font, text wraps so the main playback buttons stay on screen.
Cache, Cast and sound
- Cache: on Subsonic, Yoin keeps what you play, up to about 500 MiB, and lets go of the least recently played first. Settings › Storage shows how much it uses and clears it. The cache isn’t an offline download. To listen offline on Spotify or Apple Music, download in their apps.
- Cast: on Subsonic, tap Devices in Now Playing to cast to a Chromecast on the same network, as long as it can reach your server. When you stop casting, playback comes back to the phone. On Spotify, Spotify Connect in the Spotify app chooses the device.
- Sound: on Subsonic it depends on your files and the server’s settings, on Spotify on the quality you set in the Spotify app, and Apple Music streams through MusicKit. Yoin makes no lossless or spatial audio claims.
- The wave in the progress bar and the pulse when the song changes are animation that follows playback, not a reading of the audio.
ReferenceService support
What each service can do in Yoin. Ratings, notes, reviews, the Scrapbook, Memories, your Home layout, the AI features and NeoDB work on all three, kept by Yoin. Music files on your phone aren’t supported yet.

HelpTroubleshooting
- Subsonic won’t connect, or you can’t edit a playlist. Check that the address has
http://orhttps://and the right port, and that it opens in your phone’s browser on the same network. If you can play but don’t see the edit buttons, the server says the playlist is read-only or isn’t yours. - Spotify shows your library, but nothing plays. Check that the Spotify app is installed, signed in to the same account, and that the account has Premium. If Yoin reports a sign-in or setup problem, check in the Spotify dashboard that the redirect URIs, package name and SHA1 fingerprint match what Yoin’s guide shows on this phone.
- An Apple Music song is grayed out with a question mark, or + doesn’t turn into ✓ right away. A grayed-out song was imported and doesn’t match the catalog, or isn’t available in your region. Tap it to see which. After +, the ✓ shows once Apple Music has added the song and Yoin has found it in your library.
- An album you play a lot isn’t in Memories. It needs at least 4 known tracks, and you need to have rated 60% of them, reviewed it or written 2 notes on it. Check that you’re on the right account.
- On a new phone, your Apple Music records are missing. In Settings › Cloud sync, link the Apple Music records in your Drive to the Apple Music account on this phone.
- Android says Yoin isn’t 16 KB compatible. Some newer Android versions show this notice. It comes from Apple’s MusicKit library, not from Yoin’s own code.
Known issues
- Apple Music: Add to queue after Play next. When a song is already set to play next, a song you add to the queue goes to the end of the whole queue instead of after it. If that song is also on the album that’s playing, the queue can list it twice.
- Apple Music: shuffle moves a song set to play next. After you turn shuffle on or off, a song you set to play next may no longer be next.
Feedback
Send feedback through the form. In Yoin, tap Send feedback: it’s on the account card, which opens from your picture on Home, and in Settings › About.
You can also write to lastnatsu51@gmail.com. It helps to include:
- The app version, from Settings › About, and where you installed it from.
- Your device and Android version, and on a foldable, whether it was folded.
- Which service: Subsonic, Spotify or Apple Music.
- How the window was: a phone upright, a phone sideways, or split on a tablet.
- What you tapped, what you expected, and what happened, with a screen recording or screenshot if you can.
